COMPOSITIONS

PASIPHAE is a group of four arias for soprano and piano that I wrote, then performed and recorded at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with the wonderful soprano Elizabeth Pacheco Rose April 8-9, 2017. In these arias, Pasiphae, the priestess/queen of Crete (and mother of the Minotaur), is performing her morning ritual of singing to the four elements: Earth, Fire, Air, Water. My good friend Michael Rothkopf, who is on the composition faculty at UNCSA, invited to share a concert with him. Michael engineered the recording session on April 8, then set up the recording of the concert on April 9. The first three arias - TERRA, FUOCO, and ARIA were recorded in the recording session on April 8. The fourth aria, ACQUA, was recorded live at the concert on April 9. The recordings were mixed and mastered by Chris Cooper at Blue Seven Audio in Fremont, California. Many, many thanks to  Lorenza Masetti Shelby for her invaluable help with the translation of the lyrics into Italian.
